Fake Package Text Scam – A growing clever Digital Trick

posted in: Uncategorized | 8

In today’s digital world, scams are becoming more common and harder to recognize. One example I’ve experienced is the fake delivery text message, which targets people who shop online.

What Happened ?

I received a text saying a package couldn’t be delivered because of an “invalid address.” Which followed with a link to update my personal information. The message looked super real in the heat of the moment real and similar to ones from actual delivery companies.

Purpose of the Scam

The goal was to steal personal or financial information. By clicking the link, I could have been tricked into entering details like my name, address, or credit card information.

How these Scams Work

  • They create urgency by saying the package couldn’t be delivered.
  • They feel believable because many people expect deliveries all the time
  • The link led to a fake website that looks official but really isn’t
  • The site asked for personal information to “fix” an issue.

Things that alerted “FAKE”!

  • The message came from an unknown number.
  • It didn’t mention any specific company.
  • The link looked unusual and not like a real website.
  • I wasn’t expecting a package at the time.

How to Protect Yourself

  • Don’t click links in unexpected messages
  • Go directly to official websites instead.
  • Check if you actually have a delivery coming.
  • Pay attention to suspicious links or messages.
  • And most importantly trust your instincts if something seems off.

I think this is a real problem in today’s world that not many people think is a scam. Especially younger teens like my brother will often clic on those links and can cause problems for himself.

I think this issue is very common in today’s society and is important that it gets addressed and talked about.
